Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Your Homeschoolers
The above is an interesting article from Time this month. The U.S. granted a German family political asylum because they wanted to homeschool. Homeschooling is illegal in Germany. I am not a big fan of homeschooling in general because I have seen its downfalls, but where else would this happen? I love this country! Seriously.

I read about this in the German paper a couple of weeks ago. I don't know what to think though. Germans "protect" the children "right" to have an education, the only way to ensure that is by sending them to school. This is the only way the government can monitor that this right is enforced. Homeschooling on the other side.... I don't know. How many American kids you think there are that are "home schooled" and are illiterate? Still like the USA!!
I don't like it from an educational perspective, but I do like it from a GOVERNMENTAL perspective. These are the principles and freedoms that our country was founded upon. This article really makes me think and I like that. (But I sure believe we could do a better job regulating homeschooling! Homeschooling is a mess right now. I had a student a few years ago that dropped out of public school to be "homeschooled" by two parents that work M-F 8-5.)
I agree with you. I like the principle, and the freedom that you can do it. I wish it was better regulated.
